According to a report from GameSpot yesterday, Democratic California Senator Dianne Feinstein decided to provide her expert video games opinion on violent games.

"I think the really violent video game becomes a kind of simulator to practice on and soon we will launch this game for Android platforms and ios platforms too.

"And it enables the individual to become much more familiar with that depiction of death and blood via smartphones.

"Of course it's not the way it is in real life," Feinstein said.

The shocking and most appalling aspect of this is how there are plenty of other people out there who believe this sentiment.

Now there is research currently being done to study the effects of violent video games on a young person's mental health, but Senator Feinstein, you might just want to wait for the results of the research to come out, before you start popping your mouth off about things you're uninformed in.

Regardless of how many unqualified individuals make ridiculous statements like these, "Battlefield 4" will still be released for smart phones, and the gaming industry will go on unscathed...

Gameloft to release a wacky FPS called Blitz Brigade

Blitz Brigade is going to be Gameloft’s newest addition to its already massive library of games. Blitz Brigade features team based gameplay, big guns, explosions, and blood. The teaser trailer Gameloft released doesn’t have any actual gameplay footage, but there’s obviously quite a bit of Team Fortress 2 inspiration in this title. Unfortunately, no release date yet, but this is probably that other FPS we saw listed on Gameloft’s 2013 roadmap. Fingers crossed it doesn’t take too much longer to hit the Play Store. CyanogenMod 10.1 M-Builds arrive for several devices

If you’re a fan of the rooting/hacking/modding scene you’ve inevitably heard about the famous CyanogenMod ROM. The great customizations found on this ROM are unbelievable. The problem is, it can often take a long time to get a fully stable build out to users. To remedy this situation, the Cyanogen team has come up with a new strategy, release a (mostly) stable build once a month called the “M-Build“. The M-Build will be almost entirely free of bugs and ready for daily use. Yesterday, CyanogenMod and friends released their first set of M-Builds based on Android 4.2 for a series of popular devices. Check below the break to see if your device is supported. I installed an M-Build on my Nexus S last night and it’s running great! If you’ve got one of the devices listed below, get to it! Sony announces 10.1-inch quad-core Sony Xperia Tablet Z

A few days ago we started our watch for a new tablet device from Sony to complement their Sony Xperia Z smartphone. The wait did not take long as Sony has announced plans to release the Sony Xperia Tablet Z to the Japanese market this spring. The 10.1-inch tablet will have a full 1080p HD screen running on top of a quad-core Snapdragon S4 cpu running at 1.5GHz.

Sony has packed some other nice features into the tablet including an 8.1MP camera that incorporates some of their technology like Exmor R for mobile for grabbing stunning photos, notably in low light situations. Sony also incorporates S-Force Front Surround 3D sound, NFC capability, and a level of water- and dustproofing. The device will run Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and is LTE capable. Initial color choices include black and white.

Sony has not released a specific date of availability nor have they released any information regarding other global markets where the device may eventually be released.

Information regarding Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 (Santos) and a new high end (Roma) tablet leak

We already know about the Galaxy Note 8.0, but in the not so surprising news of the week, it looks like Samsung is prepping Galaxy Tab 3 tablets as well as a high end tab for the first half of this year. The Galaxy Tab series has been their bread and butter, and this year won’t be any different. Going under the codename “Santos” we are hearing that the Tab 3 will again come in two sizes. We can expect the same standard 10.1-inch variant and something around 7-inches. It could end up being upgraded to 7.7-inches, but nothing is final. The only spec detail that was revealed is that they will each sport a 5MP rear camera. We also have the model numbers: GT-P3200, GT-P3210, GT-P5200 and GT-P5210. If you’re doing the math, you noticed there are 4 models and that’s because we can expect to see WiFi-only and 3G (or 4G) versions.

Next up is the is the flagship tablet, which will be the GT-P8200. It’s currently going under the codename “Roma” and will also sport a 5MP camera and come in two storage options, 16GB and 32GB. Unfortunately nothing else was given. Hopefully we will see the new Exynos 5 Octa in this bad boy and I would expect to see a display similar to the Nexus 10. Who knows, maybe it will sport the new Youm flexible display.

Last but not least, we already told you most of the specs of the Galaxy Note 8.0, but the processor is now confirmed to be a 1.6GHz quad-core.

More pictures of the HTC M7 with Sense 5.0 surface

As far as pre-announcement rumors, I think it’s safe to say that last year’s One X didn’t get quite the attention that this year’s “M7″ is getting. For whatever reason, it seems as though leaks for the upcoming HTC “M7″ are coming in on a daily basis. Could it be that HTC is trying to create a little hype? Yesterday we saw a render that was as close to the real thing as possible, but today we have real pictures of what looks like the final phone. It really doesn’t look much different than the render we saw yesterday, but since it’s a real phone in hand, it adds credibility. There’s also a bonus in that we have more images of Sense 5.0.

As you can see the design isn’t much different than what we have been seeing from HTC lately. It takes cues from the 8X and the DROID DNA. The most glaring thing I can take out of yesterday’s pic and today images is the swapping of the home and task buttons. What is up with that? Why would HTC change the format all of a sudden and get away from the Google’s stock format? It makes no sense (no pun intended).

Speaking of Sense, similar to the images we have seen in the past, the new UI continues to looks minimalist. We don’t know for sure, but looking at the image on top, there could be a completely new clock widget, which would be the first major change in at least 3 years. There also appears to be newer widgets that in some ways resemble windows 8 tiles.

We are a little over a month away from the official unveiling so I am sure we will be treated to more leaks, but I would say that these pictures are probably reasonably close, but then again, HTC could be playing games with us trying to create a little hype.

Ladies And Gentlemen: Say Hello To The HTC M7 Smartphone

While HTC certainly isn’t happy about this tidbit of news, we know that you all will be: the mysterious HTC M7 smartphone that we have been harking about is finally out in full view and ready for us to drool over– despite us seeing another possible rendering recently. As you can see, the render above highlights the device’s sleek and jet black design… which is something that we were already expecting before. In addition, the display and Sense (5.0) UI seems to match up not only in the overall design and layout, but the iconography as well. The great thing is about this design is that while HTC is expected to launch the smartphone in various markets around the world, there should be minimal cosmetic differences of the smartphones— save for items like carrier tramp stamps branding.

All in all if this rendering is indeed legit and the real deal, it appears that HTC will more than likely have yet another hit on its hands. We just hope that the world is ready for another hit when the time comes.

facebook for android gets updated brings voice messaging support

Coinciding nicely with a recent overhaul and a slew of functionality improvements, Facebook for Android has received yet another update today. This time users can expect support for voice messaging and quicker image rendering. Facebookers can now also share their friends’ stories directly on their own timelines, something that previously could only be done through the desktop site. Opera Ice coming to Android in February with WebKit functionality

It appears as though Opera is preparing to release an entirely new mobile browser for Android tablets and smartphones next month. According to Pocket-Lint, Opera Ice will feature baked in WebKit functionality, something the company’s previous offerings have noticeably lacked.

Like we’ve grown accustomed to with other browsers, Opera Ice will be relying heavily on gestures for controlling key aspects of navigation. The redesigned browser will also feature tabs in the form of icons on the homepage, allowing users to easily access their favorite sites.

Lars Boilesen, the CEO of Opera Software, made it known that the company would not be ditching Opera Mini.

“Opera mini is great, but it is not a fully-fledged offering like Chrome or Safari. There are too many sites it doesn’t work with.”

Display calibration software may be included on Sony Xperia Z and Sony Xperia ZL

Sony may be in the process of adding some screen calibration functions to their forthcoming Sony Xperia Z and Sony Xperia ZL smartphones. This will likely be a nice feature for those users who are interested in doing some fine tuning of the overall screen display for their device. A screen capture of the settings reveals the ability to adjust white balance, color saturation and color hue.

The screen captures come from a Sony Xperia ZL handset. Assuming the function remains available on production units, it seems likely it would also be available on the Xperia Z.

Galaga Special Edition hits Google Play Store

Fans of classic arcade games may be pleased to know Namco Networks has released a new title, Galaga Special Edition, in the Google Play Store. Namco describes the game as being based on the classic title, but with some new twists like better graphics and special weapon power-ups. The game contains 25 levels plus boss battles. The game is free, but several early adopters are complaining the ads that help maintain that price point are extremely annoying and intrusive into the gameplay itself. Samsung Galaxy Camera Gets Updated To Android 4.1.2, Bringing New “Smart” Modes Along With It

The Samsung Galaxy Camera has gotten its first major software update which brings some significant improvements and goodies to the camera. In addition to bringing the Galaxy Cam’s Android software to version 4.1.2, the update brings a few new “smart” shooting modes including a dawn, food and snow settings which all aim to enhance whatever picture or image you are trying to capture— as well as some additional minor bug and lag fixes. While the update is available for users now— it will need to be flashed manually, so it’s advised that Galaxy Cam users take extreme caution in doing so. Or users can ummm, you know… wait for the update to be pushed out over the air and all.

Rumor: Motorola X phone could debut at Google I/O with Key Lime Pie in tow

Here’s a rumor to get your Friday Happy Hour going. We have already heard about the Motorola X phone and some think it’s a Nexus device, while other reports say that it won’t be. The latest rumor coming out of the Droid Forums is that won’t be a Nexus device, but it will be the first device to feature Key Lime Pie. Furthermore, it will be announced at Google I/O. Now Google generally doesn’t announce non Nexus devices at Google I/O events, but lets not forget that they own Motorola so this isn’t so far-fetched. I have heard from my sources that it won’t be a Nexus device, but it will be a stock Android device so this information does line up.

Another piece of news is that it will sport a 5-inch edge to edge display. Could this be where the Nexus 5 rumors came from? Maybe there really will be a “5″ at Google I/O, but it just won’t be a Nexus 5. The last piece of info is that this phone won’t be the usual Verizon exclusive that we usually see from Motorola. It will be aimed at all carriers much like the Galaxy S III and the Galaxy Note II.

Again, this is strictly a rumor and we don’t have anything concrete. All I can do is report it. Time will tell if any or all of this information ends up being legit. I would love to see a Motorola high-end stock Android device. Just put a decent camera in it Moto, and it could be the next best phone.

Samsung to announce 5.8” Android smartphones

Is it now time to finally say that a phone is just too big? Samsung will soon announce a whopping 5.8″ Android smartphone that is based off of the Galaxy Player 5.8. If a smartphone this size is your thing, don’t get too excited yet because if it is based off the Galaxy Player 5.8, then you should expect that 5.8″ screen to don a TFT qHD screen. Definitely a let down in the resolution department. The model number of GT-I9152 does indicate that this device will have DUAL-SIM support.

Samsung is expected to announce this device in Europe in the near future and probably won’t see a release in the US.

CyanogenMod team releases first build for Nexus Q to give it some life

With the Google Nexus Q all but abandoned by Google, CyanogenMod and the rest of his team have worked hard to give it some life to the few that actually do own the device.
